European Bison: The Nature Monograph

The book entitled "European Bison: The Nature Monograph" has been published in the frames of the project as the educational material for participants of previous and upcoming Summer Schools in Białowieża.

The mighty and majestic European bison is the relictual embodiment of the wildness of Europe of prehistoric times. Tragically for so many species, human impacts drove them extinct. The European bison almost suffered such a fate, but now also stands as the sentinel of successful conservation actions in a world where such achievements are few and far between.

From an early stage in the restitution of the European bison, Małgorzata Krasińska and Zbigniew Krasiński have been participating in the management actions and researching all facets of the bison from its morphology, diet, movements, social life, reproduction, and conservation ecology. In writing this book, they have documented the conservation management actions that were performed to save the bison, and summarised the wealth of knowledge on the species, that results in an ideal publication for students, professional biologists, conservationists, and all nature enthusiasts.

A chapter on European bison behaviour is available here
